• VOCABULARY INFO

About your vocab packet. You were given a completed and a blank packet. BRING BOTH TO CLASS EVERY SINGLE DAY.  When new words are assigned on the board and on this site, use your completed packet to fill in ALL THE INFORMATION  for each term in your blank packet. The terms are in alphabetical order and the numbers below match the order in your packet. I do periodic checks to ensure you're keeping up to date; failing to do so results in points lost on the next unit test after the check.

New terms will be highlighted in BLUE. They may or may not  be on the next quiz. (See the guidelines just above the start of the words listed below.)  Fill them in your blank packet immediately on the day they are first assigned. You are responsible for them even if you are absent, and it's your responsibility to know when they're assigned.

Why is studying the course vocabulary important? An understanding of the course vocabulary is key to passing both the Regents exam and the course itself. If you do not familiarize yourself with the terms, you will not only be lost very quickly but will be struggling throughout the year. Therefore, short vocabulary quizzes (approx. 10 questions) will be given about once a week to ensure you are actively studying them throughout the year. You should study the words in your packet every single day for 10-15 minutes.

What is the format of these quizzes? Quizzes will be a "Fill-in-the-Blank" format (no word banks or multiple choice). Sometimes you will provide the term after a definition is given; sometimes I provide the term and you must present an example of that term; sometimes you must list a person or country directly associated with the term; sometimes you must provide a synonym  (same meaning) or antonym  (opposite meaning) of the term. There are many different ways you can be tested on a vocab term, so simply memorizing a definition word-for-word is not going to be enough to ensure you understand it.

Answers on the vocab quizzes MUST come from your information within the vocab packet. Only in very rare cases will I accept an answer not found in the packet; this ensures you are actually studying it.

When a vocab quiz is announced, you can be quizzed on ANY OF THE INFORMATION for that term including the definition and examples; do NOT just study the definition.
