Decoding Strategies
Decoding involves figuring out what a word says using knowledge about phonics and context. Here is one basic strategy.
Chunk and Blend

Is it a compound word? If yes, break it apart.

Chop off the endings

Look for little words within the big word.

Sound out the chunks (Left to Right)

Listen for a real word as you sound it out

Does it make sense in the sentence? If not, rechunk.
